Ty Thurman began playing guitar at age 7, learning his first chords from his grandpa, a popular Oklahoma musician and fiddler.  Ty went on to develop as a lead guitarist and singer, performing with a variety of acts around the St. Louis area, and later, the Connecticut Shoreline. His interest in songwriting began with "the Action," a high energy rock band that performed all original material.  Eventually, he returned to his country roots, and began to perform his own tunes around the San Fransisco

Bay Area in the late 90’s.

In

1998, Ty left a Silicon Valley career to pursue his musical dreams in Nashville.

He found work at Huntsman Entertainment,

a country radio production and music publishing company located on Nashville's historic "Music Row.”  Nights, he worked

part-time at the Bluebird Cafe, an iconic acoustic venue known around the world, and the location of the popular PBS series “Live at the Bluebird.”  Over the next several years, Ty met many of country music’s top artists and tunesmiths, listening to and studying their hit songs.  In time, he was invited to perform at the Bluebird and other popular clubs, and had the chance to write with and appear alongside many of his songwriting heroes.

Today, Ty lives in the Florida Keys, where he continues to write, play guitar and sing his songs, many now flavored with the spirit of the tropics, sailing and island life.

He currently performs as a solo act and occasionally with his band.

Ty returned to Nashville in August 2018 to record “BeachBalls,” his second album with Leap the Creek Records. This 10-song album solidifies Ty’s presence in the popular

Trop Rock / Island Americana genre, and as you'd expect, it includes songs about the typical subjects of partying and drinking in places like Key West.

 

Looking beyond the obvious, there are also songs about unique island and sailing characters and local landmarks like Sombrero Beach and the Seven Mile Bridge.
